X-Ray & Diagnostic Procedures
Your chiropractor has many well-documented diagnostic procedures to help
evaluate your condition that include asking you questions about your health and
giving you a physical examination. Chiropractors may use x-rays to help
determine the health of your musculoskeletal system and to see if your body has
developed any serious conditions that should be managed by another provider.
There are specific well-documented reasons for performing x-rays. A reputable DC
will x-ray only the patients who require it. Feel free to question your
chiropractor about the need for x-rays in your case, about the percentage of
patients x-rayed in his or her office, or about any other diagnostic or
treatment procedure that is unclear to you.

Massage Therapy
What is a Massage?
Massage is a term describing a variety of techniques using the hands, mechanical
or electrical apparatus to stimulate or soothe soft tissues of the body for
therapeutic purposes.
How does Massage work?
Massage works by kneading and stroking muscles to relax them, and uses friction
to stimulate soft tissues. This therapy can increase blood and lymph circulation
while breaking up scar tissue between muscle fibers.
What does massage feel like?
Therapeutic massage and its effects vary with each individual. Clothing is
usually removed from the area treated and the patient should be relaxed and
comfortable. A lubricating oil or powder is used to reduce friction during
circular stroking and compression of soft tissue.
Physiotherapy
There are three main fields of practice within the discipline
of physiotherapy: musculoskeletal, neurological, and
cardiorespirological. Musculoskeletal physiotherapy causes or accelerates
healing of soft-tissue injury and seeks to maximize the rate of safe return to
function. Neurological physiotherapy accelerates and optimizes the return to
normal movement and function after a stroke, traumatic brain injury, or other
neurological illness, and maximizes functional ability for spinal cord injured
patients. Cardiorespirological physiotherapy seeks to improve breathing and
prevent lung infection for those with respirological conditions. In addition,
customized aerobic exercise programs are used together with techniques in energy
conservation to increase functional capacity of those with heart or lung
problems.
Physiotherapy treatment can include
exercise, manual therapy, electrical modalities, work hardening, as well as
education and home exercise. Emphasis is placed on what the patient can do for
him/herself and on the prevention of future injuries or disability. A
physiotherapist promotes independence and facilitates patients taking
responsibility for their rehabilitation.
